How it works
It reacts to water,
not to cold
The outer fabric carries a pigment that activates on contact with water. It doesn't need freezing temperatures β it just needs to get wet. Once it dries, it goes back to black.
-
With snow
The color comes up in patches
Snow settling on the shell wets the fabric, and color appears wherever it lands. The pattern shifts all day, right along with the conditions.
-
With water
It works in the rain too
Rain, slush or a few drops from the tap β same result. You can test it at home before you even head up.

I thought it was just a photo effect
Before ordering, I was worried the colour change was just a photo effect. On the mountain, the pigment really does react wherever the fabric gets wet, and you see it right away. Once the jacket dries, it turns black again, so the effect isn't stuck there all day. I like that it stands out without looking over the top. It's the first technical jacket I've owned that gets people asking about it on the chairlift.

Warm without the bulky feel
I wanted a jacket that could handle the cold without adding a lot of bulk. With a thermal base layer and mid-layer, I stayed comfortable even during the coldest part of the day. The insulation feels light and never gets in the way. When I'm riding harder, it doesn't feel like I'm wearing a heavy winter coat. The balance between warmth and weight really works for me.

Finally, freedom on my board
When I'm snowboarding, I can't stand jackets that pull across the shoulders when I crouch down. The relaxed cut gives me room to move and space for a warm layer underneath. I can tighten my boots and stand back up without the fabric feeling stiff. The elastic cuffs and hem also help when I end up in deep snow. For a full day on the board, the freedom of movement matters just as much as the colour-changing effect.

My crew can spot me right away
Almost everyone in our group wears a dark jacket, so on busy days it used to be easy to lose track of each other. As soon as snow hits this one, the coloured areas make it much easier to spot. My friends can pick me out from a distance without me having to wear neon all day. Once it dries, it goes back to a clean black look, which is exactly what I prefer off the mountain. It's a cool visual detail that also solves a practical problem.

Relaxed fit: check the size guide
The jacket is designed with a roomy, comfortable fit, and you notice it as soon as you put it on. For me it's perfect with a hoodie and protection underneath, but if you prefer a closer fit, choose your size carefully. The size guide helped me figure out how much room I wanted for layering. Once I had the right size, the sleeves and shoulders felt much more natural. I'm giving it four stars only because the relaxed fit is something to consider before ordering.

More confidence in wet snow
My main concern was ending up with a heavy, cold jacket as soon as the snow got wet. The outer fabric and protected zippers have handled changing conditions well. It cuts down the wind, and the adjustable hood adds useful protection on the chairlift. Even when it's wet, the jacket doesn't suddenly feel bulky. The colour effect also makes it easy to see exactly where moisture is hitting the fabric.

Technical, without looking generic
I wanted a clean-looking jacket, not something covered in permanent graphics. When it's dry, it's simple and black, so it works easily with the rest of my gear. In snow or rain, colour appears only where the water hits and completely changes the look. It doesn't feel like a printed graphic, and the pattern is never exactly the same. It's a great balance between technical style and something that actually stands out.

The effect comes back throughout the day
I thought the colour change would be something you see once and that's it. In reality, the jacket reacts every time the fabric gets wet. After a break indoors, it gradually turns black again, then starts changing on the next run. The pattern depends on where the snow lands, so it's always different. The fact that it keeps returning to black makes it feel much less gimmicky than I expected.

Easy care, but follow the instructions
I'm giving it four stars because the reactive fabric needs a little more care than a regular jacket. The instructions are clear though: gentle wash, no fabric softener and no dryer. I'd rather spend a few extra minutes taking care of it than damage the effect over time. Letting it air-dry in the shade is simple enough. You just need to know up front that it's not a jacket you should wash carelessly.

The hood helps when the wind picks up
In the mountains, the wind can change in minutes, and a good-looking jacket isn't much use if you can't adjust it. The hood fits well and gives me extra protection without blocking too much of my view. The elastic cuffs and hem also help seal out drafts. The jacket still feels light and doesn't weigh down my shoulders. It's a practical setup for moving between runs, breaks and chairlifts.

Just the right amount of room for layers
Usually I have to choose between a fitted jacket that pulls or one that's way too bulky. This relaxed fit leaves room for a base layer and fleece without restricting my arms. When it warms up, I can remove a layer and the jacket still sits well. That makes it much easier to adjust to changing temperatures throughout the day. For me, that's the main reason I'd buy it again.

Clean black off the snow, completely different on it
In person, the contrast between dry and wet is what stands out most. Before the snow hits, it looks like a really clean black jacket. Then wet snow creates different areas of colour on every run. The transition is gradual enough to look natural, but visible enough to get attention. I like getting two completely different looks without bringing two jackets.

The cuffs and hem make a difference
It's the small details that decide whether a jacket still feels comfortable after several hours. The elastic cuffs stay snug without feeling too tight and help keep snow out when I fall. The hem also stays in place better while I move. I don't have to keep readjusting the jacket over my layers. The reactive effect gets the attention, but the practical details are what make me actually want to wear it.

The intensity depends on moisture
The effect doesn't appear because it's cold; it happens when the fabric comes into contact with water or wet snow. With light moisture, you mostly see patches and smaller details, while wetter snow makes the colour much more noticeable. It's worth knowing so you don't expect the exact same result in every condition. I actually like that the pattern follows the weather and is never identical. I'm taking off one star only because this is something buyers should understand before ordering.

Comfortable from first run to last
My priority was not ending up halfway through the day with stiff shoulders and feeling overheated. The jacket is light, gives my arms plenty of movement and layers well without feeling tight. It blocks the wind on the chairlift and doesn't feel bulky on the way down. The adjustable hood is useful when the weather turns. After several hours, the comfort matters even more to me than the colour change.

Protection without too much bulk
I wanted solid protection without the stiff feel of some winter jackets. The lightweight insulation keeps the profile clean and makes movement easier. With the right layers underneath, I can wear it through colder stretches and milder parts of the day. The water-resistant zippers are reassuring when the snow gets wet. For me, the biggest strength is the balance of comfort, protection and weight.

It stands out without being loud all the time
I like bold colours on the mountain, but I didn't want a loud jacket all the time. This one stays black when it's dry and only shows colour when it gets wet. I can wear it away from the slopes without feeling out of place. When it starts snowing, though, it becomes instantly recognizable and feels much more personal. It's a smart way to combine a clean look with a surprising effect.

Finally, clear care instructions
With a fabric this unusual, I expected the care routine to be complicated or poorly explained. The directions are simple: hand wash or use a gentle cycle at 30Β°C, no fabric softener and no dryer. Letting it air-dry in the shade helps protect the reactive pigment. Knowing exactly what to do makes it much easier to preserve the effect over time. It's a small bit of extra care for a jacket that doesn't look like everything else.
